The next few posts will be about my planning and preparation to undertake a portion of the Camino Frances, an ancient pilgrim route to the cathedral at Santiago de Compestella in north-west Spain. Due to some of the equipment required, this time, I will be checking a bag due to carrying walking poles and a knife.
Over the next few posts, I will be sharing the sources I have consulted and provide a detailed packing list with explanations for the “why” of each item. In this case, the prime consideration is weight and ensuring that each item carried contributes to the mission. As you will see, many of the items serve dual or multiple purposes (as an example: my smart-phone, will be my phone, internet connection, camera, guidebook, and flashlight).
As for the “why the Camino?”. I turn 50 in 2016 and I wanted to do something which marks this milestone and involves my passion for travelling.
Here we go!
50 days to the Camino
